Upholstered Bed Frame & Divan Base Cleaning in London
Bed frames and divan bases are among the most heavily soiled upholstered items in any home — yet they are rarely cleaned. Fabric, velvet, and linen bases harbour dust mites, skin cells, and allergens at mattress level. We assess the fabric type and care code before selecting any method.
Why It Matters
Why Bed Frames and Divan Bases Need Specialist Cleaning
An upholstered bed frame sits at the same level as your mattress. Dust mites, dead skin cells, and allergens accumulate in the fabric over months and years. Unlike a mattress, which is usually covered by a protector, the bed frame fabric is exposed directly to the bedroom environment — and to the underside of the mattress, which sheds debris continuously. Most bed frames and divan bases carry a care code label, but it is often hidden inside a seam or on the base frame. We locate it before selecting any product.

Upholstered bed frames accumulate dust mites and their waste products at a rate comparable to mattresses. Regular cleaning reduces allergen levels in the sleeping environment.
Fabric types vary widely
Divan bases and bed frames are upholstered in linen, velvet, chenille, boucle, wool blends, and synthetic fabrics. Each requires a different cleaning method. Using the wrong product causes water marks, shrinkage, or pile distortion.
Divan drawers and storage bases
Storage divan bases with drawers accumulate dust and debris inside the drawer cavities. We clean the exterior fabric and can vacuum accessible interior surfaces.
Staining from spills and contact
Drinks, body oils, and cosmetics transfer to bed frame fabric over time, particularly on the headboard panel and the side rails at mattress height.
What We See
Common Problems on Upholstered Bed Frames
Dust mite accumulation
Fabric bed frames and divan bases are a primary dust mite habitat. Allergen levels build up over time and are not removed by vacuuming alone.
Body oil and skin residue on side rails
The side rails at mattress height receive direct contact from hands and arms. Body oils accumulate and darken the fabric, particularly on lighter colours.
Spills on the headboard panel
Drinks, food, and cosmetics spill onto the headboard panel. On velvet or linen, these leave tide marks if treated with water on a solvent-only fabric.
General soiling and dulling
Airborne dust, skin cells, and bedroom debris settle into the fabric over time, dulling the colour and making the frame look worn.
Pet hair embedded in the pile
Pets that sleep on or near the bed transfer hair into the bed frame fabric. Specialist tools are needed to lift embedded hair before cleaning.
Odour from the sleeping environment
Bedroom odours — from perspiration, pets, and general use — are absorbed by upholstered bed frames over time. Cleaning removes the source rather than masking it.
Assessment First, Always
How We Clean an Upholstered Bed Frame
Every clean begins with fabric identification and a care code check. The method is selected after assessment — not before.
Fabric and care code identification
We locate the care label — often inside a seam, on the base frame, or on a drawer panel — and confirm the fabric type before selecting any product.
Colourfastness test
A small hidden area is tested with the chosen cleaning agent. If the dye is unstable, we adjust the product and tell you before proceeding.
Pre-treatment of stains and problem areas
Body oil patches, spill marks, and heavily soiled areas are pre-treated with the appropriate product for the fabric type.
Main clean — method matched to care code
W-coded fabrics are cleaned with controlled hot-water extraction. S-coded fabrics are cleaned with dry solvent. WS-coded fabrics are assessed and the most appropriate method is used.
Nap restoration and drying
Pile fabrics are brushed after cleaning to restore the texture. We advise on drying time before leaving — typically one to three hours for water-extracted fabrics.
Inspection
We walk through the result with you before leaving. Any areas that need a second pass are addressed before we pack up.

Common Questions
Upholstered Bed Frame Cleaning — FAQs
Do you clean the headboard separately from the bed frame?
We clean the entire upholstered surface — headboard panel, side rails, footboard, and divan base — in a single visit. If you only need the headboard cleaned, we can do that too.
Do I need to move the mattress before you arrive?
Yes — we ask that the mattress is removed or leant against a wall so we can access the full surface of the base. If you need help moving it, let us know when booking.
Can you clean a velvet or linen bed frame?
Yes. Velvet and linen are among the most common bed frame fabrics we clean. Both require care-code checking before any product is applied — velvet in particular is sensitive to water on S-coded fabric.
How long does the fabric take to dry?
For dry-solvent cleans, drying is near-instant. For water-extracted fabrics, drying is typically one to three hours with good ventilation. We advise on this before leaving.
Which areas of London do you cover?
We cover central and inner London, including Kensington, Chelsea, Mayfair, Marylebone, Notting Hill, Fulham, Battersea, Islington, and Hampstead. Contact us to check availability in your area.
